Why I Use WordPress to Create Websites

You might be thinking ‘Why WordPress? There’s plenty of options out there.’ And you’re right; the website world has exploded with ways to DIY your website or have it meticulously crafted for you. If you’re standing at this crossroads, scratching your head over which path to take, you’re in the right place.

I’ll be upfront: I’ve got a liking for WordPress. In fact, I’ve built websites almost exclusively on this platform. I’m going to break down all the reasons why WordPress isn’t just a choice – it might be your best choice for crafting that website you’ve been dreaming of.

WordPress is easier than ever to use

Having been around since 2003, WordPress has not only stood the test of time but evolved into the easy-to-use platform that it is today. Through it’s evolution, launching and maintaining a website has become easier through page builders such as Elementor (my personal favourite) and a plethora of plugins to add functionality on the fly.

It’s common for clients to come to me with a blank WordPress site – they have managed to purchase a domain name, hosting and install WordPress – but when it comes to designing and building the site they are stuck scratching their head thinking… now what?

That’s where I come in to take the pressure off, collaborating with clients to build them the perfect website for the business. But that’s not where it ends, with WordPress I am then able to hand over the website. Ensuring they are well trained with an understanding on how to update and maintain their website into the future – something not possible if they had a site built with custom coding.

While I’m always here to provide ongoing support for my clients, the beauty is they don’t have to ring me up every time they want to tweak a minor detail on their site.

It’s a cost-effective solution

WordPress is completely free to use this alone sets it apart in a market where other platforms require a subscription fee just to get started. However, you’ll still need a domain name and web hosting. But those costs are universal, no matter what platform you use.

While it’s true that WordPress has a massive array of paid plugins and themes, there are also literally thousands of free options. From SEO tools to eCommerce solutions, you can bolt on a wide variety of functionalities without spending a single penny.

Now, you might be thinking, “Don’t I need a developer to keep things running smoothly?” Well, it’s not a bad idea to have a pro handle the more technical aspects, like monthly maintenance and security. However, this is generally cheaper than what you’d pay for similar services on other platforms or hiring a full-time developer. Also remember that the control you have with WordPress means you can make most changes yourself without paying someone else to do it.

Complete flexibility and scalability

Your website’s needs today might not be the same as they will be tomorrow. Markets shift, your business evolves, and sometimes your passions take a totally unexpected turn.

WordPress is incredibly accommodating to change. If your online blog is ready to transform into a fully-fledged online store, or if your portfolio site needs to turn into a consultation booking platform, WordPress has you covered – no need to start from fresh.

As your website begins to attract more eyeballs, you’re naturally going to need to beef up your offerings. Whether it’s additional features, more storage space, or tighter security measures, WordPress makes scaling up a breeze.

Makes climbing Google rankings straightforward

What’s the point of a beautifully designed, content-rich website if no one can find it? WordPress makes it easy to rank higher on Google as it’s built with SEO in mind. It produces clean, fast-loading code which is preferred by search engines.

WordPress also has free SEO plugins, such as Rank Math, which guide you through optimising your search engine presence. It’s also easy to consistently add new content to your site, such as a blog or additional pages – which is key to improving search engine rankings.

No commitment or subscription

Worried about the yearly lock-in of other DIY-website options? WordPress means you are not tied down to a platform with recurring fees or any long-term contract. If your hosting provider no longer meets your needs, you can easily migrate to another provider.

This level of freedom extends to every corner of your WordPress site. Outgrown a particular plugin? No problem – you can swap it out for something that better suits your needs. And if your current developer isn’t syncing up with your evolving requirements, you’re free to bring in someone who does.

I hope this has helped you understand why WordPress is my go-to for creating websites. From its user-friendliness and cost-effectiveness to its unrivalled flexibility and SEO perks, WordPress stands out as a platform designed to meet today’s digital landscape.
